Laila Ali, world-class athlete, wellness expert and TV host to serve as Go Red luncheon keynote speaker

This National Wear Red Day, women have the opportunity to showcase their support for heart health by attending the Detroit Go Red For Women Luncheon on Feb. 6. The event will be held at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. and will feature educational workshops and a heart-healthy lunch at noon.

According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women and one in three women die of heart disease and stroke. For two consecutive years, Janice Cosby Bridges, chief marketing officer for Ascension Health Michigan, has served as co-chair of the Detroit movement.  As the 2015 chair, Bridges is charged with raising $600,000 for the Detroit campaign.

“You don’t need to have heart disease to support Go Red,” said Cosby Bridges. “This is a women focused initiative where we support each other of all ages and backgrounds for a common cause. I want to see more women engaged in this movement by way of health screenings, regular checkups, eating healthy and exercising,” she added.

According to the association, women are more powerful than they think because they have the power to stop a killer.  One individual who will help luncheon attendees discover their inner strength is Laila Ali, TV host, author, speaker and CEO of The Laila Ali Lifestyle Brand.   As the special keynote speaker, Ali will share her insight to empower women to take charge of their health.

“After years of training, I’ve realized healthy habits are formed when you fuel your body with the right ingredients,” said Ali.  “My goal is to help others discover the champion within themselves by sharing my wellness journey,” she added.

“As a mother, wife and athlete, I’ve devoted my life to connecting individuals with resources to help them lead healthier lives, said Ali. “Women tend to be the nucleus in family circles often ignoring their own heart health.  Go Red For Women is important because it encourages women to make their health a priority.”

In addition to Ali’s presentation, attendees can enjoy a silent auction and breakout sessions including “If You Don’t Have Your Health What Good Is Your Wealth” and “Maintaining a Better U.”

Tickets for the luncheon are $250 each and VIP Afterglow tickets can be purchased at the luncheon. For more information visit www.DetroitGoRedForWomen.org or contact Amy Hobley atamy.hobley@heart.org or 248.936.5831.
